Microsoft 365 is one of the most widely used platforms for managing business email. However, in some operational contexts, companies and partners decide to move their mailboxes to a different infrastructure.
This may happen, for example, when they prefer to manage the email service directly or integrate mailbox management into their own technical infrastructure.
This type of migration allows you to transfer messages from Microsoft 365 mailboxes to Qboxmail while preserving the communication history.
Migrating from Microsoft 365 therefore involves some specific requirements, but it still follows the standard stages involved in moving mailboxes to a new email service. If you want a complete overview of the process, you can learn more about how business email migration works and the main steps to consider when switching providers.
One of these specific requirements concerns the authentication method used to access the accounts. If the accounts use OAuth2, the migration requires a preliminary step: creating an App Registration to authorize access to mailbox data during the transfer to Qboxmail.
This procedure applies to Microsoft 365 accounts that use OAuth2 authentication.
Microsoft 365 uses this authentication method to control how external applications access mailbox data. Before you start the migration, create an App Registration in the Microsoft environment.
The App Registration generates an OAuth2 token. The migration process uses this token to access Microsoft 365 accounts and transfer messages to Qboxmail.
After you complete this step, contact Qboxmail technical support and provide the CSV file for the mailbox migration.
The CSV file must include two additional fields related to the App Registration:
client_ID → Application (client) ID associated with the App Registration
client_secret → value of the client secret
The CSV file must follow this structure:
email@locale;imap-server-remoto;email@remota;pwdremota;client_ID;client_secret
For a complete guide to the migration setup, refer to the official Qboxmail documentation:
https://docs.qboxmail.com/en/panel/imports-migrations/migrations#migrating-from-ms365
The documentation describes all required technical steps. It shows how to create the App Registration and how to prepare the CSV file for mailbox migration.
To manage the migration properly, it is useful to assess in advance the number of mailboxes involved, the volume of data, and the account configuration. This helps organize the transfer in a structured way, maintain service continuity, and reduce the operational impact on users and administrators.
Once access to the Microsoft 365 accounts has been set up, you can organize the different activities required for the transfer from the Qboxmail Control Panel. To learn more about how the available tools work, find out how to plan email imports and migrations independently.
